Bitroot: creating the affordable solution!
’’When most people think of groundbreaking digital technology, they don’t picture soil sensors. But a farmer who knows the temperature, pH, and moisture level of his soil can make all sorts of informed decisions that save money and boost yield.’’
Most digital platforms that provide this kind of information are expensive as sensors can cost hundreds of dollars each and each one only covers 10 meters. Bitroot is in the process of creating a digital platform that is affordable for the average farmer. This being for the benefit of the famer and for the benefit of the environment!
Time is running out!
We have 12 years to limit climate change catastrophe according to the UN. World leading climate scientists are warning us that we need to keep global warming below the level of 1.5°C and we only have 12 years to do so. Just half a degree more than this will ''significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.''.
Global warming is catching up with us quickly, and one of the biggest ways to tackle this issue is through our food. Eat locally!
''If we fix our food, we fix our planet'' - Johan Rockström, Environmental Professor
Farming locally is our biggest asset in the fight towards a society with sustainable development says the Climate Council in Jönköping County. A whopping 70% of the greenhouse gases emitted in connection to our food comes it being imported. Near-produced food decreases transport, it opens up the countryside and it reduces a society’s vulnerability.
